My STORY
When I was 3 years old my parents set me down to tell me that I was going to have a baby sister.
I said "can't we have a piano instead!". Finally, when I turned 8 we inherited an 1890's upright piano.
The first time we had it tuned I was amazed. After that I would take it apart and work on it myself. And when the piano technician would come to my little town in Texas I would follow him around and learn whatever he would teach me. (David Frisbe) At the age of 20, I moved to New York City to do volunteer work. While there I met an older expert piano technician who would come to New York to tune for recordings twice a year. (Orman Pratt from Washington D.C where he used to tune the White House pianos.) He taught me to tune by using the Dynamic Thirds. He introduced me to a piano technician from Maine who taught me how to tune using the Fouths and Fifths and how to regulate piano actions. (Mel Fletcher) Thanks to all who have taken the time to teach me over the years!
Eventually, I met my wife who is from Indiana. We lived in Bloomington for 6 years before moving to an organic farm north of Santa Fe.
So far I have had the pleasure of tuning for John Mellencamp, Indiana University, IU International Studies Concerts at the Art Musuem. Bloomington Jazz Festival, ISSMA contests, and the soundtrack for the Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan movie Ithaca ( Music by Mellencamp.)
